Sweetgrass, grown right in the garden, turns golden and sweet by the time it's ready to distill — faintly like sun-warmed hay and vanilla, the scent deepening the longer it dries. That warmth comes from coumarin, the same aromatic compound found in fresh-cut hay, built into the plant itself.

It doesn't clear a room the way a sharper herb would — sage sweeps clean, sweetgrass invites back in. A few sprays into a room, through your hair, or at the front door mark the way toward sweetness and calm returning, once things have already settled.

Sweetgrass is sacred to many Indigenous nations of North America, braided and offered in ceremony, sometimes called "the hair of Mother Earth" for the way its long blades flow like braided strands. We grow and distill our own in small batches, offered here as what it is on its own terms — not a substitute for that ceremonial use.
